Summer is here and basketball season is over.  No reason to stop practicing though!  This summer, Coach Kucera and Coach Carlson will be running their annual 15,000 Shot Clubs (middle schooler’s can pick up info in Room 409 and high schooler’s can get their info from Mr. Rude) to keep skills sharp over the summer months.

Brand new this summer for the younger set, HYBA in coordination with the Hutchinson High School Program are introducing the 6,500 Club & 10,000 Shot Club for boys and girls who will be entering 5th & 6th grade next year!

Players are made in the off-season. Teams are made during the season. We are now two months into the offseason. Time to make some players!

By spending as little as 15 minutes a day working on your game, you can greatly improve your skills and really help your team next season. Plus get some exercise and stay in shape!

To provide some added incentive, you can earn rewards for completing each Challenge.

Challenge #1: 6500 CLUB: Earn a Tiger 6500 Club T-shirt
Challenge #2: 10,000 SHOT CLUB: Earn a 10,000 Shot Club Medal plus the T-shirt

Top 10 Reasons to join the CLUB
10.  Fight summer boredom
9.  Because your coach says so
8.  You like free T-shirts
7.  To finally beat your mom in a game of P-I-G
6.  Earn a Cool Medal
5.  Stay in shape
4.  Have fun playing driveway basketball games
3.  Become unbeatable at Lightning
2.  To get them Moves like Jagger, or Rubio or Whalen

The HYBA will be holding the First Annual Shooting Skills Summer Camp for boys and girls completing grades 5-8 this spring.  The camp will be held at the McLeod County Fairgrounds June 19-21.  The camp will be run from 6-7pm for girls and 7-8pm for boys.  The cost will be $30 for all 3 nights and will include a camp t-shirt.

The focus of the camp will be repetition, form, drills, footwork, philosophies and techniques.  We will work on team drills and individual drills that you can take and apply throughout the off-season to prepare you for the next basketball season.

The camp will be coordinated and run by the HYBA.  Representatives from the Hutchinson Varsity Coaches, as well as HYBA board members will be in attendance.  Bob Suko will be heading up the camp on behalf of the board.  Bob is currently the Vice President of the HYBA Board.  Bob has coached at all levels of basketball and served as a head coach for a boys and girls high school team in North Dakota of which the boys team made three straight state tournaments.  Bob was also fortunate enough to coach two ND Mr. Basketball’s and coached the one and only McDonald’s All American in the State of ND.

The HYBA Board would like to say thank you to retiring board members Bernie Miner, Jeff Pasco and Marc Max for their years of service to the youth basketball community in Hutchinson.  All 3 gave hours and hours of their time and talents to help improve the opportunities the youth of Hutchinson have for organized basketball.  The HYBA program was greatly improved during their tenure on the board and they will be greatly missed.

Thank you Bernie, Jeff and Marc!
